Why go "Green"?
Traditional cleaning products pose a multitude of human health and environmental concerns, and often contain chemicals associated with cancer, reproductive disorders, respiratory ailments, eye or skin irritation, and other serious health issues. Recent studies found over 200 different chemicals present in the bloodstreams of newborn babies. As humans we are constantly absorbing the chemicals we come in contact with on a daily basis. Many common cleaning agents are made from petroleum (a nonrenewable source) and other products that, when rinsed down the drain, leave a toxic residue in our water supply. UrbanMaidGreen strictly uses natural, bio-based cleaning products that provide health and safety benefits for cramped New York City indoor environments.

Do eco-friendly cleaning products work as well as traditional products?
Yes. Many of our clients are initially concerned that using green products will sacrifice cleaning effectiveness. A variety of studies have shown that green cleaning products perform as well as, if not superior to, conventional cleaning products. In fact, the city of Santa Monica, the Chicago Public School system, and others have repeated these results in controlled on-site evaluations. The products we use are certified by Green Seal and Environmental Choice, U.S. and Canadian standard-setting and eco-labeling organizations that require green cleaning products to pass stringent performance standards as well as adherence to strict environmental and human health criteria.

Who will be cleaning my home?
The individuals who clean are trained professionals and are dedicated to providing thorough and efficient cleaning. Because we strongly believe effective cleaning can only be accomplished with clear communication, each cleaning professional we employee speaks fluent English.

Will the same person be cleaning my home if I use UrbanMaidGreen regularly?
We recognize that effective cleaning is best accomplished by those who are familiar with your home and your personal preferences and requests. As such, we make every effort to provide you with the same cleaning team for each visit. We encourage relationship building and want you to feel comfortable with those cleaning your home.

How will the individual who cleans my home get there?
We use public transportation 99% of the time. In very rare cases a residence is not accessible by public transportation in which case we will find an alternate way of reaching you. Each employee is supplied with a safe carrying case for the supplies brought to a client's home. Such carrying cases are easily carried on subways and buses.

Do I need to provide any supplies?
We ask that the client provide a vacuum. We are happy to supply a vacuum for an extra charge. If we do bring our own vacuum, it will be a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum, a highly recommended vacuum with a filter that, unlike traditional vacuum cleaners, is able to catch very fine dust particles. HEPA vacuums, popular and often used by allergy sufferers and those with respiratory problems, are 99.97% effective at capturing particles down to 0.3 microns. This means that a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter traps all the dust it picks up, instead of spreading it around in the air you breathe. We ask that you let us know in advance of any additional tools you would like us to supply.

How do I pay?
We require a credit card to be on file with us for each time we clean your home. We ask that you submit your credit card information over the phone or through our secure website. See "Contact Us". Your credit card will only be charged when we clean your home.

Do I have to be at home when you clean?
No. In fact, most of our clients are not at home when we clean. We require that you leave us with permission to enter. Accepting/booking our services gives us permission to enter your home for the scheduled appointment if you are not at home.

Are your rates higher than cleaning services that use traditional cleaning products?
It depends. We understand that there is no standard cleaning price for the wide variety of NYC residences. We have experienced rates from traditional cleaning services that range both higher and lower than our own. We believe that our rates are appropriately priced for the services we offer.

What is your cancellation policy?
We require two days notice for all cleaning cancellations. Any appointments canceled less than 48 hours prior to an appointment are subject to a charge for half the cost of the service booked.

Do you service Brooklyn and other outlying areas of Manhattan?
Yes. We have clients in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. If your home can be reached by subway or other reasonable methods of public transportation, we are happy to serve you.
